The much awaited launch of India’s ambitious moon mission
Chandrayaan-2 is scheduled for today. It will be launched
from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 2.43 pm
IST.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced the
re-launch in a tweet,” Chandrayaan 2 is ready to take a billion dreams to
the Moon — now stronger than ever before! Join us for the launch on Monday
— 22 July, 2019 — at 2:43 PM IST.”

The countdown to the launch was started yesterday evening and the filling of
liquid core was also completed last night.

“Launch rehearsal of #GSLVMkIII-M1/#Chandrayaan2 mission completed,
performance normal,” ISRO tweeted

The launch was earlier scheduled to take place on 15 July
but was aborted due to technical issues. The mission was cancelled only 56
minutes before the scheduled launch time. However, ISRO has been able to
overcome the technical glitches and is ready for the re-launch today.

Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-MkIII is being used
for the launch of spacecraft that carries an orbiter, lander and a
rover.

Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second moon exploration mission after Chandrayaan-1
and is expected to reach the orbit of moon by September and will make a
landing on 6 September.

The 978 crore rupee mission, Chandrayaan-2 will create
history for India as it is the first soft landing attempt of the country on
moon. With the mission’s success, India will become the 4th country in the
world to achieve the feat after USSR, USA and China.

The aim of Chandrayaan-2 after landing will be to study the moon’s surface,
inform about the location of lunar water and create 3D maps. The information
will be useful for future missions.
