States on high alert after Article 370 removal in J&K

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory for all
the states and Union Territories of India in view of the
removal of Article 370 of the constitution, which grants
special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the advisory, states and UT administrations have been asked to take
necessary steps to maintain law and order and also to ensure the safety of
people from Jammu & Kashmir who are living in other places across India.

The advisory states, “As you would be aware that the Cabinet has taken an
important decision today concerning Jammu and Kashmir in the overall national
interest and to strengthen national security. It is essential that this
occasion is not allowed to be misused by inimical and anti-social elements to
cause of breach of security, peace and public harmony in any part of the
country.”

The Home Affairs ministry has advised the authorities to use security forces
& law enforcement agencies to provide adequate protection to students and
workers from Jammu and Kashmir living in other parts of the country.

The notice also says, “Ensure safety and security of residents of Jammu
& Kashmir, especially the students hailing from J&K, in various parts
of the country.”

Chief Secretaries and DGPs of all States and Union
Territories apart from Delhi Police commissioner have
received the order.

As per the government’s decision, Jammu and Kashmir will be divided into
two Union Territories namely Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army and Air Force have also been put on high alert while a red alert has
also been issued for the Delhi Metro network.
