Bharatiya Janata Party has staked its claim to form the
government in Karnataka. This comes just three days after the
Congress-JD(S) coalition government collapsed after failing
a floor test in the assembly.

BJP state chief and former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa had
met the state Governor Vajubhai Vala to claim his party’s
right to form the government in Karnataka with 105 MLAs.

Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the Chief Minister for the fourth time yesterday
evening at the Raj Bhavan where more than 1,000 police personnel were
deployed for security.

Earlier Yeddyurappa had said “I will also try to contact Kumaraswamy and
Siddaramaiah over phone, to invite them personally.”

Congress-JD(S) alliance received only 99 votes as 16 of the MLAs had rebelled
and submitted their resignations.

Three of the rebel MLAs have been disqualified by Speaker KR Ramesh
Kumar
under the anti-defection law till May 2023. They are
Independent MLA R Shankar, Congress MLAs Ramesh L
Jarkiholi
and Mahesh Kumathalli.

In a shocking revelation, rebel Congress MLA Shivaram Hebbar
has said that the MLAs were incited to resign by former CM Siddaramaiah. He
said, “Siddaramaiah was the one who instigated us. We are still with Congress
and we have nothing to do with BJP forming government.”

While Siddaramaiah denies any wrong doing and tweeted, “This
is nothing but a false allegation with mala fide intention.”
