UK, Australia, Germany ask citizens to avoid travel to J&K

While the government has asked tourists and pilgrims to get out of Jammu and
Kashmir as soon as possible due to terror threats. Other countries like
UK, Australia and Germany have also issued a travel advisory
for their citizens.

The governments of these countries have asked their citizens to avoid
traveling to Jammu & Kashmir as a result of the security
alert
by the state government. People from Australia, Germany and UK
who are currently in Jammu and Kashmir have been asked to leave the state.

The travel advisory by UK stated, “If you’re in Jammu and Kashmir, you should
remain vigilant, follow the advice of local authorities and keep up to date
with developments, including via this travel advice.”

On Friday Jammu and Kashmir government had issued a security notice after the
Indian army confirmed that there are reports of attack on the
Amarnath Yatra by terrorists backed by Pakistan
Army.

National Institute of Technology-NIT, Srinagar has also
asked its students to vacate the premises and studies in the institute have
been suspended till further orders. Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday
also suspended the annual Machail Mata pilgrimage in
Kishtwar district citing security reasons,

This is the first time that such an alert has been issued concerning the
Amarnath Yatra as pilgrims travel to the state in thousands every year.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad spoke against the
government’s decision to suspend the Amarnath Yatra. He said “The advisory
that was issued…yesterday is worrisome…No government has ever asked
tourists to go back,”

The troop deployment in the state has also been increased and in the last few
days and 100 additional companies of paramilitary personnel have reached the
valley.
