Golden Shine Cultural Welfare Trust is the name of the NGO based in
Delhi that is dedicated to bringing music into life of people with
disabilities. The organization is changing lives through art and is making a
huge difference in the lives of children from weaker sections of the society
and those with disabilities.

Children and adults with disabilities are encouraged to follow their passions
in music and are given training and education by Golden Shine
Cultural Welfare Trust
under their flagship program
Saakaar.

Music not only helps the disabled students to learn art and connect with
culture, it also helps them develop individual identities. After their
training, the amateur musicians are provided a platform where they can
perform and present their talents.

Various types of music and musical instruments are taught under Saakaar with
a high quality maintained throughout. Students with disabilities are offered
free classes and given instruments to take home for the duration of the
training.

The founder Ankur Gupta, who is visually impaired, says the
love for music and arts led him to set up the organisation.

The NGO was founded with a vision to promote musical talents and also to
enable the disabled people gain confidence in their abilities. We wanted to
use music to provide a means to bring the disabled community into the
mainstream and also to help them find a means to earn their living with
dignity. What could be better than spending life around music and art and
using them for making life more meaningful? – Ankur Gupta,
Co-Founder Golden Shine Cultural Welfare Trust

After their training here, many students have gone on to make a career as
music teachers. This year, a music concert is being organised by the trust
which will be inclusive. Musicians, with and without disabilities, will be
invited and to showcase their talents. Disabled singers will be paired with a
singer without disability and they will sing duets. The concert is on
14 September.
